Bike to WorkMay 27th, 2013 by Dariusz Ciskal
This coming week you will see more cyclists on the road for B.C.’s Bike to Work Week. This event will be taking place across British Columbia from May 27 to June 2 and celebrates commuter cycling as an active alternative to driving to work or taking transit.
For Vancouver’s Bike to Work Week, offices across the city will be competing to log kilometres travelled and number of employees cycling to work. Celebration Stations will be located along major bike routes in the city. They will be promoting cycling education, increasing awareness and giving away prizes. Visit Vancouver’s Bike to Work Week web site for more information about the event or to learn about how your office can participate.
Though the event is on now, the temperate climate in the Lower Mainland makes cycling a convenient option year-round. The City of Vancouver is criss-crossed with bike lanes and every part of the region can be accessed along bicycle friendly routes. Cyclists who are new to the area may want to read through The City of Vancouver’s cycling laws and bylaws which outline the rules of the road for cyclists.
If you would like to participate in Bike to Work Week, but you don’t have a bike yet, we recommend that you stroll down Denman St. between Georgia St. and Davey St. There are a number of bicycle shops here where you can look for a new set of wheels or to ask about long term bicycle rentals.
Vancouver Extended Stay guests can keep their bicycles safe in our secure storage lockers while you stay with us. Come to the Guest Services office and ask about storing your bicycle during your stay in Vancouver.
