Things to Do in the Fall in VancouverSeptember 21st, 2012 by Dariusz Ciskal
It has been a beautiful summer but today, September 21, marks the end. The glorious days of basking in the wam sunshine are numbered. But, don’t loose heart, Vancouver is a fantastic city in any season. There are still plenty of great activities in this awesome city of ours; you just have to know where to look.
1. Visit the Vancouver Art Gallery
You may not be viewing the local art along English Bay, but you can still get your fill of amazing local and international artwork at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Take an afternoon to view the amazing blend of modern and contemporary pieces throughout the massive venue. And when you get a bit peckish, be sure to stop by the in-house café and enjoy a cappuccino and a sandwich, boasted as one of the best in Vancouver.
2. Cinema International
Travel to more than 80 countries via the silver screen at the Vancouver International Film Festival. critically acclaimed as “an unspoiled celebration of world cinema.” Screenings begin in just one week at various venues, which in the past have included Vancity Theatre, Pacific Cinematheque and Empire Granville 7 Cinemas. It’s one of the biggest film festivals in North America and one you don’t want to miss.
3. Take a Hike – Literally
Vancouver is surrounded by thousands of kilometres of hiking trails for all levels. For those looking for more of a relaxing stroll, Stanley Park is loaded with tons of in-city trails that are sure to get your heart racing (with excitement that is). For those looking to really push the limit, try the Grouse Grind. If you can make it to the top in less than 45 minutes, then you have my utmost respect.
4. Dine out
When the sun disappears it can sometimes make you want to crawl into bed and wait for for a brighter day. Well, in Vancouver, you may end up waiting for a very long time. But not all is lost. Vancouver is home to some of the world’s most exciting and unique restaurant districts. Take an evening to visit Mainland St. in Yaletown, Albernie St. in Coal Harbour, Commercial Drive in East Vancouver, and of course the Tea House atop Stanley Park. The food is so delicious and the atmosphere so exciting that you will simply never want to leave!
