5 Things To Do This Labour Day Weekend

While summer doesn’t technically end until September 22nd, for many Labour Day weekend marks the unofficial transition into fall. Luckily, from drive-in movies to outdoor festivals, the lower mainland has no shortage of activities to keep us entertained throughout the holiday weekend. All while staying socially distant, of course.

Haven’t solidified your plans yet? No sweat. Here are five recommendations of things to do this long weekend, as we slowly say goodbye to summer.

Taves Family Farms Applebarn

Let your inner child run wild this weekend at the Taves Family Farms Applebarn. Pack your sunscreen and plan for a full day adventure! From tractor rides and corn quest mazes, to apple picking, they have an activity for everyone.

Then after you’re finished, stop by the Cidery. With four different locally prepared ciders available, we suggest grabbing a flight and tasting them all!

Dine Outside Vancouver

From the team who brought you Dine Out Vancouver, Tourism Vancouver has done it again. This time, with their summer (and socially distant!) lineup for Dine Outside Vancouver. With 161 restaurants across Vancouver participating in this festival, even the pickiest of eaters are sure to find something to satisfy their palette. All restaurants are offering prix fixe menus with $15, $25, $35 and $45 options. As well, all restaurants participating must either have a patio or “take outside” picnic pack for you to take and enjoy in parks around the city.

Abbotsford Sunflower Festival

You’re going to want to bring a fully charged camera for this one! With 25 varieties of sunflowers on 6-acres of farm, the Abbotsford Sunflower Festival at Maan Farms is a sight to behold. In addition to sunflowers, this year the festival will include over 50 varieties of Dahlias and Gladiolas too.

With extra-wide one-way trails, you can enjoy the picturesque beauty of the flowers, all while remaining socially distant. And just like us at Vancouver Extended Stay, Abbotsford Sunflower Festival loves dogs and welcomes all leashed furry friends.

Movie Night at Twilight Drive In

Get transported back to the 50’s with the city’s most popular retro drive-in movie theatre. The Twilight Drive In Theatre offers cinephiles a unique experience to enjoy new and classic movies under the stars and from the comfort and safety of their own vehicle. So go ahead and stretch out, cozy up under the blankets, and enjoy the best seat in the house!

Vancouver Mural Festival

Featuring over 60 murals in 9 neighbourhoods across Vancouver, you’ll definitely want to wear your comfiest walking shoes if you decide to explore the best street art the city has to offer this long weekend. Designed as a way to allow local artists to connect Vancouverites to their neighborhoods through accessible public art, you can experience the Vancouver Mural Festival through free daily guided tours or on your own through the newly created VMF Mobile App.
