Rainy Day Activities in Vancouver

There’s a reason locals call it Raincouver! With Vancouver’s infamous rainy weather season fast approaching, you may want to plan on some indoor activities to really make the most out of your stay. To help you solidify your plans before you arrive, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite rainy-weather approved suggestions so that you can enjoy your time in the city. Rain boots are not required! 

 

Commodore Bowling

Opening in 1930, Commodore Lanes & Billiards is Canada’s oldest surviving recreation centre. Only a 15-minute walk from Vancouver Extended Stay and conveniently surrounded by bars and restaurants, Commodore Bowling is perfect for an afternoon or evening of fun. With 12 lanes, billiard tables, foosball, and an arcade, there’s something for everyone!

Vancouver Aquarium 

As Canada’s largest aquarium, this tourist and local favourite is a centre for research, education, climate activism, conservation and animal rehabilitation. Activities include touchpools, 4D experiences and short-term exhibits with changing wildlife features. If you’re travelling with a large group, make sure to inquire about their group rate discounts. With two restaurants and a cafe, it’s easy to make this a whole day event!

FlyOver Canada

It’s hard to beat this exciting, immersive experience in downtown Vancouver! Guests sit suspended in front of a 65 ft screen and “visit” both coasts, the Canadian North, and many wonderful spots in between. Along with spectacular visuals, visitors will also experience the sounds and scents of all the breathtaking scenes during the ride. This season, make sure to check out their fun-filled Halloween ride which takes flight starting September 29th.

Science World

An iconic landmark in the city of Vancouver (you will recognize it by the giant dome that lights up the city), Science World is a non-profit organization with a goal to inform and inspire! The learning centre has a variety of permanent and limited-time exhibits that focus on all different areas of science, limited-time exhibits, as well as live shows and film screenings. This is a perfect rainy day activity for visits to Vancouver with younger children!

H.R. MacMillan Space Centre

Also referred to as the Planetarium, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre is a popular space museum and event location that is only a 15-minute walk from downtown Vancouver. Watch an educational show in the planetarium theatre or explore and learn about deep space, light pollution, climate change, and the potential for life on other planets.
