Four Things to Do This Winter in Vancouver

Winter in Vancouver is a special time of year. Not only is the city and scenery beautiful during these months, but there’s also no shortage of fun activities to do! With snow-covered mountains, mild temperatures, and an abundance of events happening in and around the city, there’s truly something for everyone to enjoy. So with that in mind, our team at Vancouver Extended Stay has put together four of our favourite things to do this season!

1. Lace Up Your Skates

Channel your inner Tessa Virtue or Scott Moir and head to the rink to show off your skating skills. A local favourite only a couple blocks away, Robson Square Ice Rink is free to use, with skate rentals only setting you back $5. Alternatively, The Shipyards Skate Plaza is newly opened in North Vancouver and is the largest Skate Plaza in the region at a whopping 12,000 square feet. Here, the same deal is offered as at Robson Square, only at $7 a rental for adults and $5 for kids.

2. Hit the Slopes

‘Tis the ski’son, afterall! Whether you’re a skier, snowboarder, or just want to experience a true winter wonderland, there are plenty of mountains nearby that will offer up fresh, white powder and beautiful views. If you’re staying with us, Grouse Mountain, Mount Seymour, and Cypress Mountain are all under an hour’s drive away. No car? No problem! Public transit and/or shuttle services are available to all three.

3. Watch a Hockey Game

There’s nothing like a good old fashioned hockey game for some winter entertainment. With fast-paced games and fresh, new talent on the team, watching a Vancouver Canucks game is sure to deliver excitement. Bonus: If you’re staying with us at Vancouver Extended Stay, the rink at Rogers Arena is only a short walking distance away! Tickets can be found on their website, here.

4. Take a Day Trip

If this isn’t your first visit to Vancouver, you’ve likely already taken advantage of the many nearby attractions and activities downtown. So if you’re in the mood to venture out and explore something new, there are many wonderful places that can easily be visited in a day. Among our winter favourites are Harrison Hot Springs and Whistler. To find a great list of other options, visit here.
